All B.C residents are required to register and are asked to pay a monthly premium. If you are 65 or over and enrolled in MSP, you will automatically receive a Gold Care Card. Your Gold Care Card is useful as proof of age and residence for discounts offered by certain government programs and many businesses.
Premium Assistance is available for low income residents. Regular premium assistance offers subsidies ranging from 20% to 100% based on an individual's net income (or couple's combines net income) for the preceding tax year. If the resulting amount, referred to as "adjusted net income" is $28,000 or below, a subsidy is available. Temporary premium assistance offers a 100% subsidy for a short term based on unexpected financial hardship. Contact MSP for more information.
