Our goal is to provide you and your loved one with a very positive experience at the L'Chaim Centre. Our professional staff will work with you and your family to ensure that care needs are safely met.
We provide adult day programming and caregiver support.
This information is to assist you in participating in our services and will tell you what to expect during your time with us.
L'CHAIM PROGRAM
L'Chaim is open Monday, Wedneday and Friday. The hours are:

TRANSPORTATION
HandyDART can provide some rides to and from the centre.
- Cost of a ride is $2.00 each way or $4.00 per day. Your monthly bill will include this cost.
- You may choose to be driven by a family member. If HandyDART is unable to provide transportation, L'Chaim will endeavor to find a volunteer driver.
NURSING
A nurse is available to supervise the taking of medication. She also monitors weight, blood pressure, blood sugars and counsels on individual health problems. She may assist clients to the washroom if needed and handles medical emergencies. She maintains contact with families and doctors as needed.
MEALS
A hot kosher meal is served at . Refreshments are provided as well. L'Chaimis not under BCK supervision, but buys kosher foods, cooks kosher-style and has two sets of dishes/cutlery/pots and pans.
PROGRAM FEE
The daily program fee is $4.00. You will receive an invoice monthly for this amount (includes lunch, snacks and program materials). HandyDART charges covered by L'Chaim will be added to the monthly invoice as well.
SHABBAT AND JEWISH HOLIDAYS
Part of L'CHAIM's mandate is to provide Jewish programming content. All aspects of Jewish cultural, humor, music and holidays are included. Both secular and religious Judaism are respected. We have weekly Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday afternoon. Hebrew and Yiddish are spoken by some staff members. L'CHAIM is closed on all major Jewish Holidays and on civic holidays.
OUTINGS
Occasionally clients are given the opportunity to go on an outing that usually includes stopping at a restaurant for lunch. Please bring along $12 - $15 for your lunch that day.
HOME EARLY
Once a month on a Wednesday or a Monday, L'Chaim closes at so that Staff may participate in an In-service Education program.
CANCELLING SERVICE
If you are ill or need to cancel your day at L'Chaim for other reasons:
- Please notify us at (604) 257-5111 Local 401
- Families are responsible for cancelling HandyDART by calling (604) 430-2892
- HandyDART asks that you cancel at least one hour before the scheduled ride.
PRIVACY
Respecting your privacy is important to us at L'CHAIM. The information we receive may be shared with professionals such as your doctor or case manager in order to provide you with the best care available.
We do take photos at L'CHAIM which sometimes appear in the JCC brochure or other publicity. Please advise the L'CHAIM administrator if you prefer that your photo not be used, or if you have any questions about L'CHAIM'S protection of privacy policy.
